Hot stone massage is performed with heated volcanic stones, as they are smooth and retain heat exceptionally well, and therapeutic essential oils. The stones' temperature is perfect and consistent throughout the treatment. 

The stones are then placed on the body in specific spots, either guided anatomically or on energy points to help aid balance and flow. Beyond leaving the stones in place, the therapist will also use the stones to perform Swedish massage techniques, such as kneading, long smooth strokes, and rolling.
